I bought a Flymo Pac-a-Shredder final August from my nearby BQ superstore, and put to use it in the autumn a couple of occasions without any dilemma. I in all probability filled the collecting box no a lot more than ten times with tree branches and twigs. I adjusted the mechanism once or twice towards the end of that time as I noticed that the shredder was starting to perforate the branches rather than chop them ie branches come out still as solid branches, but with cut marks in them and stripped of their bark. I have tried to use it twice this year, most not too long ago to shred the 1" thick branches of an apple tree on both occasions it has perforated the material and I located that I could not adjust it any extra. I reported this to Flymo final week and was told to take it to their neighborhood service centre (a private independant firm) beneath the guarantee. I collected it final Friday and was assured that it was working satisfactorily. The repairman stated that there was plenty significantly more adjustment in the adjusting plate, and I observed that despite the fact that the adjustment screw was at its fullest extent, the teeth of the cog were bearing on the adjustment plate. I got it house and put the apple tree branches in it again - it was no diverse to just before I took it for service. I rang Flymo once more this morning who told me to take it back to the repairer, despite my insisting that he had stated that he could do no alot more. At this point, I called BQ who, in spite of my buying it more than seven months ago, agreed to give me a complete refund, which I have now collected.
This machine is pretty heavy I would have hated the believed of returning it by post or courier, so I am so glad I purchased it from BQ.
I am disappointed. I checked the internet critiques endlessly prior to generating my buy I purchased it mainly because it had highly great testimonials, and my initial feelings about it had been pretty positive. It feels very robust and packs away easily I was able to use it as a table in my garage when it was not in use. But a shredder that can not shred is useless, however robust and very easy to retailer it is. If Flymo had admitted it was faulty I would happily have accepted a repair or a replacement, but mine simply did not perform even when there was allegedly nothing at all incorrect with it.
If you nonetheless want to obtain one particular just after reading this, I advocate you get it from somewhere you can return it to without difficulty if it is faulty, and test it well by giving it as a lot use as attainable straight right after purchase I doubt that all suppliers are as generous as BQ with their returns policy.

I was impressed with the speed and delivery of this Shredder from Thompson On-line which arrived fairly immediately. It had been unpacked and repacked by Thompsons and split into two packages. The collection box had been removed and sent separately as apparently the Flymo packaging was not robust sufficient when passing by means of the carriers systems. It had also been partially assembled and tested by them which explained some of the marks and modest scratches on the machine. I was impressed with the design specially how the machine could be folded down into the collection box but I was disappointed with the performance of the shredder, it only partially shredded the material put in and hardly touched the softer leaves and soft branches. It did then again chip the bigger and stronger branches upto 40mm very well which leads me to believe that it is a fantastic chipper but not a really good shredder. The gap among the cutter blade and backplate was not square getting two or three millimetres wider at 1 finish. The gap in between the cutter blades and the side of the machine on the other side was quite substantial allowing lots of 'stuff' to bypass the cutter. The resultant mulch was nowhere near as fine as our previous ALKO machine which lastly wore out after practically twenty years. We compost everything achievable and had been not ready to accept the poor capacity of the machine to do the full job and have arranged for it to be returned for which we are waiting to hear from Thompson.
